I'm freaking myself out with these pictures. It's weird looking at photos of me where I'm not smiling or pulling a funny face. It was so hard to keep the serious look while surrounded by such fun ladies. Plus the light shining in my eyes made it hard to keep them open. If you look closely you can see they started streaming at one point, but I'm pretending it was my brilliant acting skills really capturing that mourning portrait mood.

I find it really strange that people took pictures of themselves in mourning and even stranger that they took photo's with and of their dead loved ones. I always feel old photographs have an innate creepiness to them but post mortem photography takes it to the next level. It's interesting how something that was so accepted has now fallen so far out of fashion. It does make for some good Halloween inspiration though.

I used this outfit as a bit of an excuse to buy from designers I've been coveting for a while. Crown & Glory are blogger favourites and I always enjoy browsing their collections and seeing folk like Lynsay rocking them. Their pieces have featured on a number of my wishlists on here but I've just never taken the plunge, probably because I could never make a decision on which head piece I wanted first. So with my focus set on something with a sinister edge (and taking the flower props in many of the Victorian images as my inspiration) I opted for this Lotta Rosie Headband in black.

My other investment was this Lime Crime Velvetine lip colour in Black Velvet. Not the most everyday of lip shades but I felt it had to be done in the name of All Hallows Eve. I follow the brand on Instagram and am always really impressed by the out there colours and alternative make up looks. I had seen a few mixed reviews about this product but I am all for giving things a go myself so snapped it up from British stockist, Love Make Up. I am really impressed by the staying power of this product and will definitely be rocking it come the 31st.

My outfit was nicely finished off by this new piece by Runaway Fox, part of their awesome A/W collection. I love the attention to detail on the chain and the little label on the bottle. Very subtly sinister.

Ok, I'm going to lock creepy Helen away in the attic again, at least for a little bit. Don't have nightmares!
