March Round Up

Watching: I feel like I haven't been to the cinema for a while but it's actually not been that long. I went to see Hail, Caesar! earlier this month. After seeing the trailer I was expecting it to be utterly hilarious. Sadly my expectations were a little too high. It was funny, just not quite as funny as I wanted it to be. However, it is all worth it for Channing Tatum's dance number. That guy's got the moves.

Doing: March has been spent eating all of the things. As well as all that Easter chocolate I spent a wonderfully food filled evening at Byron. They've just opened their new Glasgow restaurant and I was invited along to test out their proper hamburgers. While they were absolutely delicious, I was most excited about the hard shakes. How could I not love an Irn Bru milkshake with bourbon or a strawberry one with Baileys. Like the most magical, drinkable desserts. I pretty much had to be rolled out of there.

Buying: On a rare sunny day I took a walk down to Carnaby Market. Feeling in a bright mood due to the weather I treated myself to a floral number. Of course, as soon as I left the fair it started raining. Sorry about that! It is now safely tucked away in my wardrobe, waiting for the weather to warm up.

Clicking: Making internet friends is great fun but sometimes it's nice to get out into the world and meet some of those folks in person. I had the opportunity to do just that on a recent instagram meet up. About 60 instagrammers came together for a tour of Dundee. It was great fun being a tourist in my own city and seeing it from a different angle (aka the top of a very tall cathedral spire). I really enjoyed the talk by Dundee designer Hayley Scanlan, checking out the new DCA exhibition - Grey Gardens and finishing off the day at Malmaison tasting their cocktails and nibbles. That evening was then spent checking out the #dundeeinstameet hashtag. There are some great shots on there.

Watching: Another Channel 4 advertising win, I was instantly drawn to The Aliens. Featuring some of the actors from This is England, this is a drama series about immigration, segregation and deprivation in the guise of a sci-fi story. It's only 3 episodes in but I'm already hooked. Wishing I hadn't caught on so early so I could binge watch!

Doing: Fashion press days. It's my favourite time of the season when you get to see all the shiny exciting new stuff but it's also terrible for the bank balance! As if we didn't get enough of the coveting bug at Edinburgh Fashion Week, I also headed along to the House of Fraser event and the Debenham's SS16 press breakfast. There were so many great things going on at both- more on that soon"

Buying: I've finally got my technophobic bum into this century and bought a DSLR camera. I know- a blogger without a camera- what? I've been swithering whether to get the much acclaimed compact Olympus Pen E-PL7 but I went for a heftier (and cheaper) Nikon D3300. I can't kid myself that I know what I'm doing beyond Auto.

Clicking: Since I'm all about making new friends, I've joined the #ScotGalGang which is a twitter and Whatsapp group of Scottish girls across the country who chat about everything and nothing. It's quite good to be part of something that doesn't centre around 'business chat' or blogs with people who 'get' what you do. The girls are all at different stages of blogging and such a supportive bunch of babes- even if I do get a little lost in the multiple conversations sometimes! You can join in by using the hashtag on twitter #ScotGalGang. I'm using my personal account @dressingupwith.
