This week we are celebrating 3 years as a blogging duo. It's been a bit of a whirlwind and has struck a chord with way more people than we expected- so thank you! As always, we are so grateful for the opportunities it's afforded us and all the awesome individuals we get to hang out with.
You might be scratching your head thinking but what's this outfit got to do with Wardrobe Conversations' birthday? Well, let me tell you a story...
A little over three years ago, I was in a bit of a dull place. The stress of my management job was getting to me, I had no productive downtime and I wanted a fun distraction. Helen was craving creativity outside her job too, so we started throwing around ideas of a fashion project. Something to focus our energies on, that we would have to devote specific time to. A hobby. You probably know this already from our About Us page but here's something you didn't know...
We thought we'd put together a mood board in the form of a blog, never really intending for others to take notice. A spark of excitement was lit and we began to think up the look, the mood and the name:
Style Diner
Yep, in the early pre-launch days, Wardrobe Conversations was actually Style Diner. It was to be a menu board of out-there 90s TV burger bar colours and patterns. It was going to have a kitsch 50's twist and it was just going to be filled with kooky candy-coloured outfit, party and nailart inspirations. It was Saved by the Bell meets Grease.
We worked on the whole style of it during that time. I think we had visions of us in these cute skater skirts, roller waitress style, with cute varsity jackets. We bought matching shirts. Anyway, needless to say that as we developed the idea of us styling up items from our closets we decided that Wardrobe Conversations was a better fit and the rest is history. The first time we told anyone about Style Diner was when we met the beautiful couple behind Edinburgh Casting Studio and Runaway Fox. We must get a bit overexcited whenever we discuss the idea because between the four of us it quickly morphed into a roller-skating milkshake bar.
Roller Shakes
Yeah, we're pretty good at coming up with names for these fictional businesses we own. We have a dedicated Pinterest Board for Roller Shakes, a logo designed by Edinburgh Casting Studio and even milkshake recipes (more on that on Friday)! At one stage I even considered pulling my contacts together to organise a pop up event. But skates and liquids? It's an insurance nightmare waiting to happen... For the moment we'll just have to dress up and play pretend. Skates optional, of course.

This outfit is definitely one of the most fun that I've worn. It was mostly made up of stuff I already own but I'd never worn it altogether like this. It's cute and fun, and with the two of us walking around in our matching jackets (spoiler) we were like a really small kawaii gang. We drew a lot of attention on the Southside of Edinburgh, with people calling at us in the street and stopping to watch. Between the hailstones and brilliant sunshine it was a surreal afternoon. Helen customised the jacket during our late night drunk sewing session. I can't decide if it's on trend with the 90s pins and patches going on, or if the faux fur was a step too far, but it's certainly a piece I'll keep!

Since we are celebrating the blog, I'm going to delve back into ye olde archives for a bit. Normally we do an outfit round up but we've actually done a lot more besides.
Here are my top 5 posts from Wardrobe Conversations in no particular order :
1.) Tropical Girl Gang Weekender
Our Girl Gang shoots are always the best but this one is a particular favourite of mine. It brought together my beautiful blogging ladies, fruity summer vibes and the awesome photography of Mint and Chillies.
2.) Our Mother's Day posts
I loved both of these entirely different takes on honouring our mothers for this occasion. While I wrote an ode to my mum's (lack of) Style and how that shaped me, Helen remembered her mum by recreating an old photograph of her. I love it.
(I apologise in advance for the image quality I used for mine. The shame!)
3.) Blogtacular
Of all the things we've done, Blogtacular gives me the feels. Doubling up a birthday visit to the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition in London with the blog conference means the two are intertwined in my mind. We met so many amazing bloggers, got totally inspired and had the shopping time of our lives. Every single photo from that week is vibrant and full of smiles.
4.) The Gathering Five
We've been to a few of these Gatherings now but this was our first- and it was on home territory of Dundee. Organised by G of Scot Street Style , it's basically a big party for fashion creatives to get off instagram and meet in real life. We brought along our girl Vicky and hung out with fellow babes Forever Yours Betty, Bee Waits, Skittlisfashion and Kirsty from Charcot. The night in part also led to our inclusion in the #Onward book. Find our spread on pages 130-131.
5.) MoveIt Lookbook
I think I love any sets of photos where the two of us are together. It's surprisingly rare for us, as normally one is photographing the other. But I think those are the times when you really see the chemistry between us- as both blogging partners and besties. Boya Shen did a great job of reflecting us in a natural but fun way in the resulting video too. Plus, 90s squiggly patterned dresses? Very Style Diner!

Phew, this has been a long post but it's my (blog) birthday and I'll indulge if I want to.
Look out for Helen's matching outfit and fave posts on Wednesday and our blog birthday celebration on Friday. Until then you can find me figuring out where else I can wear this ridiculous customised coat.

aw this is so sweet! I love your outfit, very 90s tv! I really like the idea of 'style diner' and roller shakes, can totally see you opening a little milkshake bar now. Happy blog birthday to you and Helen! My favourite blogging due!
