Not gonna lie, I'm in love with the colours in these photos. What started as a few outfit photos to add into the Tea Green Atelier post took on its own life. I love it when that happens! This is my favourite outfit of the moment too- it works on both sunny and rainy days (Scottish summer), it's comfortable, and it's got a pop.
The cute little onigiri striped top is the one I picked up in the The Whitepepper bank holiday sale a while ago. There was a little bit of drama behind it though...

I bought the top in a large (because I am clueless as to my current size) so it is admittedly pretty roomy as a cropped knit. The arms are particularly big on me. However, I can't return it...
I was pretty excited to try it on as soon as I rushed home from the Post Office depot, parcel in hand. I quickly threw it on over my head... and it got stuck. Properly stuck, attached to my ears and all. And my ears are pretty small, but clearly my head is not. If you have never got your head stuck in a jumper, I cannot explain the level of panic it induces. Seriously, something primal takes over. I started to sweat. I felt sick. I suddenly felt very alone. My life flashed before my eyes.
I gave a huge yank down in my struggle. So, now it was no longer on my ears, but I was stuck in it. Idiot! Cue Bridget Jones-esque hopping around my bedroom with a jumper neckline stuck to my face, until the thing finally gave way and ripped open at the back.
Voila, it is definitely non-returnable now!
I'm fairly certain it was not supposed to be that tight. But now it is faulty in new ways, with a hole and foundation trim from being against my face. I have literally never got foundation on a piece of clothing before but it gave me teen Internationale fitting room flashbacks (where every item seemed to have a dusting of it). The shame! There was very little stretch in the bottom of the neckline, so I assume there was a tight line of stitching in the knit itself that needed loosening (read: my head's gigantic). Perhaps not in the way I did it, but at least the hole was at the seam so I was able to easily sew it up.

I repaired it, washed it, and kept the top in my drawer for almost two weeks, hating it (and my massive head) and suffering PTSD. But it is so cute! I couldn't resist forever. I finally dragged it out.
And it is adorable, if a little large overall. I kind of love it.
Even now, though, I have to ensure I have no makeup on and my hair down to get it on. I mean, I knew I had quite a large head, as every ladies hat reminds me, but I didn't realise it could be a potential hazard. So, every time you see me in this top, consider the risk I'm taking just putting it on in the morning.

It's doing wonders for my self esteem. Who knew that head circumference would be another unrealistic beauty standard for women? Not this tattie heid, that's for sure.

  1. Oh my goodness - I can totally picture that! I got stuck in a dress once with my arms stuck inside and figured I'd juts die that way. The jumper is super cute though and really suits you!
