This weekend saw the start of Edinburgh's inaugural fashion week. Organised by This is Edinburgh, this week of events sees a selection of runway shows, tutorials and pop up shops designed to show off what the capital has to offer. We were invited along by the lovely Laura of Satisfashion to help out with her style tutorial (more on that another day) and were given the VIP treatment at a special blogger breakfast to kick things off. We also got a sneaky peek in the marquee on the Mound, which housed the catwalk and also some pop up's featuring some lovely local brands, before the doors opened and the week truly kicked off.

For such an occasion I decided to break out my new cape. It only dawned on me at the last minute that it might be a bit cliche to wear tartan to a Scottish fashion week. I wasn't put off though, why not use the opportunity to show off a traditional fabric worn in a casual way. Plus it is super cosy and comfortable, I may have been spotted in the FROW with it drapped over my knee (granny style is so in this season). It is pretty much like getting to wear a blanket outside and that is a-ok with me. I picked up this fabulous item at Carnaby Market just the other week. I hadn't meant to buy anything but it was too hard to resist. Ross may have laughed at me when I grabbed it off the rail but even he admitted it was rather awesome when worn.

I kept the rest of my get up pretty basic. I knew we'd be on our feet a lot so I wanted to be comfortable. I also wanted to make sure I was warm enough. Let's just say the weather was rather changeable and I was very glad that my cape featured a hood. Pops of fun were added in the form of my New Look chocolate bar clutch and my Sugar and Vice Overlook necklace, which you can just spot peeking out of my shirt. The shirt features a teeny elephant print and reminds my of an old fashioned pyjama top. I am all about talking my lounge wear out of doors!

It was a really fun day. I think all involved have done a great job of showcasing the shopping destinations of the city. We missed out on the second day but it looked rather good, including a catwalk from one of our favourite Edinburgh spots - The Grass Market and a show from a couple of amazing ECA graduates - Briony Campbell Ross and Kirsty Frew. More events are happening this week so check out the website all the details.
