October is one of our favourite months, mainly due to our love for Halloween. In the spirit of dressing up, we've decided to make the rest of October Unlikely Style Icon month! There hasn't been any of these on the blog at all this year so we're going to do our best to catch up. We've had a few of these in our heads for a while so we thought it was about time we got them on camera. Enjoy!

Kicking things off for our Unlikely Style Icon month is Moonrise Kingdom, one of my favourite Wes Anderson movies. I picked Sam, the awkward but strangely confident male lead. While everyone in a Wes Anderson film already has bags of style, I thought creating an outfit from what is essentially a boy scouts uniform would be a little tricky. Turns out I was wrong. I had everything I needed already in my wardrobe. Who knew I had secret scout style?!

The only extra thing I did was to attach these awesome patches to my jacket. While I don't have as many as Sam, I still like this little array of colourful additions. I also added my pencil brooch as Sam and Suzy start off as pen pals in the film. Those little touches, matched with this Brownie tshirt that I won in an Instagram giveaway, mean I'm channeling some pretty strong Sam vibes. I was so happy when I won this tshirt. I was a Brownie but only for a very short time. I was super excited about picking out my uniform (they had culottes, damn it) but quickly decided that being a Brownie wasn't as fun as being a Rainbow and left before I got to dress the part.

Sam spends most of the film wearing a beaver hat. My version doesn't have a tail but, unfortunately, I do think it's real fur. It was bought as a gift for me from a vintage shop but I still feel a bit weird wearing it. It's seems a bit hypocritical, since I have bought brand new leather shoes before but I wouldn't dream of buying new fur. Does the fact it's vintage make it any better? What do you guys make of wearing vintage fur? I do like the look and the warmth of this hat but I think I might start looking out for a faux version to ease my guilty conscience.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Wes Anderson films are adored by a lot of bloggers and it's not hard to see why. Amazing styling and quirky characters, what's not to love?! I haven't watched all of his back catalogue but I've really enjoyed the ones I have seen. My top five goes:

1.) The Grand Budapest Hotel
2.) Moonrise Kingdom
3.) The Royal Tenenbams
4.) The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
5.) Rushmore

Ok, turns out I've only watched five of his films but that just gives me some movies to look forward to seeing. The sets, costumes and music are always great. Plus I love his signature panning shots. I would have really liked to make a little fashion film to go with these pics but I have neither the skill nor the equipment to make a good job of it. Instead I think I'll just go watch Moonrise Kingdom for the millionth time.
